Dr Tony Stubbs
Dr. Tony Stubbs established his own ophthalmology service in 1999. He first commenced his ophthalmology training in 1986 assisting his father, Dr. G. Maxwell Stubbs who was the first Australian Ophthalmologist to routinely implant intra ocular lenses during cataract surgery. He then gained valuable experience overseas and finally spent a year at Fred Hollows’s Eye Department in the Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney.
Dr. Tony Stubbs provides ‘state-of-the-art’ small incision, sutureless cataract surgery, which allows rapid visual rehabilitation and minimal disturbance to the eye, all performed under local anaesthetic as a day surgery procedure. Every cataract operation is also treated as a refractive procedure and only the best and latest equipment is used to measure the eye before the procedure and during the actual surgery, thereby giving the best visual results for the patient.
Dr. Tony Stubbs was a visiting specialist at The Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital. Patients may be operated on at the Victoria Parade Day Surgery Centre in East Melbourne.
Dr. Stubbs operates with the best theatre staff, equipment and warm and friendly admission staff to ensure the highest standard of care is always maintained. Dr. Stubbs only uses experienced, senior Anaesthetists, who play an important role in ensuring that the anaesthetic is effective and surgery is comfortable in a relaxed and supportive environment. Many patients are elderly and their medical condition is closely monitored during cataract surgery, and they are not discharged from hospital until they are completely comfortable, alert and well. All patients following surgery are reviewed by Dr. Stubbs.
Dr. Stubbs maintains continuing professional development with an active participation in local and overseas developments in eye surgery. He is a member of the European and American Cataract and Refractive Surgery Society and regularly attends international conferences, and has regular contact with colleagues, both interstate and overseas, in order to maintain an up to the minute, state of the art eye surgical service for his patients.
